Self-promotion Saturday!

Hey!

That’s right, it’s another self-promotion Saturday! Only, it’s not actually Saturday, it’s Sunday. Saturday turned out to be a pretty busy day, so I started out with the best intentions of finishing off my post and putting it live, but I ended up running out of time. So, happy Sunday!
While I will obviously promote my own book in this delayed self promo Saturday post, I will also promote some of the other lovely authors I have met over the last few weeks. I have found so many fantastic books from the self published writing community on Twitter, I am having a hard time selecting just five to show to all you lovely people. I figured that I would do my best to show you a large range in genres in the hope that you will find something you might like to try. Don’t forget to leave these authors a review through Amazon if you do enjoy their work. Like I have said numerous times before, reviews are gold for self published authors like myself. So, have a little look through my five picks for this week and let me know if you decide to give any of them a go!

MISSING, Past and Present: Is life just a roll of a dice?

When her husband vanished, Dorothy didn’t think that it could get any worse. Then her foster son Ahmed disappears too.
Homeless and destitute Dorothy trudges the lanes around Drumford reflecting on all she has left; her memories. Squatting in an empty farmhouse she is haunted by the ghost of an 18th Century aspirant nun who is swinging from the rafters and Dorothy begins to piece together the nun’s story.
Will Dorothy’s resilience win through? Will she ever find peace and more importantly will she ever learn the truth?

My first pick this week is written by a lovely lady called Diana Jackson. If you like a good mystery then this might be the book for you, and what’s even better, is that this is not just any old mystery, it is a ‘British genealogical mystery with a ghostly presence’. The description of this book really caught my attention, and as you all know, I am a sucker for a good book cover too!
MISSING is available on Kindle for £2.39 and in paperback for £8.99 and you can buy your copy just here.

The Balance Between Life and Death

The balance between life and death can be precarious. Ana Adams wakes up every morning, goes to work and comes home at night to her dog. That doesn’t mean she’s living. After suffering the worst pain imaginable Ana is trying to make it through each day. The smile on her face means nothing, all that matters is the turmoil that is going on inside her head.
As Ana learns to open up to others and embarks on a new relationship she finds that letting life in is harder than she anticipated. Perhaps she’s moved too fast and needs to focus on healing before opening herself up to more pain and disappointment.
Will Ana learn her lesson or will it be too late for her?

Last week I focused on a book which highlighted mental health, and this week I will be doing exactly the same again. Because mental health is something we should all be talking about, and any book which is trying to promote that is well worth a mention! The Balance Between Life And Death is a novella focussing on ‘the importance of putting your mental health first’, and ‘a reminder that you never know what someone is hiding beneath their smile’.
This book is available on Kindle through Amazon. It is £1.99 to buy or free on Kindle Unlimited. You can get your copy here.

The Future Bride

Twenty-one-year-old Brigid MacDonald spends her days working at a coffee shop, hanging out with her BFF Selma, and avoiding the low lifes she usually meets at bars – until she suddenly finds herself in a strange castle, in another time, being dressed for a wedding ceremony she didn’t consent to! Of course Brigid steals a horse and flees, but the jilted groom and his brothers aren’t giving up so easily. Unprepared for life in the wilds of Medieval Scotland, Brigid must trust her life to a Highlander named Ferghus.

This book sounds fantastic! It is sitting on my Kindle ready for when I find a spare afternoon, and I cannot wait to read it. What is there not to like about this story? And to top it all off, it is set in the Isle of Skye, one of the most beautiful landscapes known.
If, like me, you would like to give this book a read, it is available on Kindle for £2.25, free on Kindle Unlimited and £9.75 in paperback. It is also available in the UK and the US.

Tabitha Fox Never Knocks

Traditional hobbies have failed to entice Tabitha Fox; crochet, baking and gardening have left her cold. With theft definitely not on her mind, she steps out of character one winter’s evening to try and fill the void that life has dealt her and finds herself ‘accidentally’ breaking into one of her neighbours’ homes. She takes nothing away except the discovery that deviation from the mundane makes her heart beat a little bit faster – and she quite enjoys it!
She starts to work her way down the residential street opposite her own home, watching and waiting for the occupants to go out so she can go in and explore by torchlight.
One night in the run up to Christmas however, things reach crisis point as on one of her illicit expeditions, she discovers Val, an injured, elderly lady who is in neighbor Don’s home under circumstances far more tenuous than her own.

Here’s another I love the sound of. I have not included the full blurb for this book because it is a little long but you can read the full version here.
While I was looking through all of the wonderful books posted to me on Twitter, this one really caught my attention after reading not only the blurb, but also its fantastic reviews! It is a ‘fun and intense read’ and contains dark humour. I am all about the dark humour, so yes, this book is also on my to-read list.
Tabitha Fox Never Knocks is available on Kindle for £4.97, free on Kindle Unlimited and £4.97 in paperback. You can find it just here.

What The Gods Allow

Medusa, the Gorgon, is free—temporarily. Penned up in Tartarus, the gods—Zeus and Hera—show her mercy. Medusa is given two weeks in which to track down their wayward daughter, Eris. Transformed into a beautiful young woman, Medusa is given only one warning: not to use her powers of transforming those to stone.
She agrees and adopts the name Meddy Gorgonne. In a stroke of chance, she finds lodgings with the Goldstein’s, Sam and Trudy, and tries to figure out how modern Portland works. Cars, showers, television—all are mysteries to her at first, although she adapts.
Meddy is somewhat naïve about life and especially about love, as she slowly falls for Sam, a teen who is suffering from Usher’s Syndrome, a disease that will blind and deafen him in time. What is more troubling to Meddy is that her powers of turning people to stone have returned, and she is at a loss as to why.
With the police slowly closing in and time running out on how to get Eris to return to Olympus, Meddy discovers that sometimes old is new, and that time-worn traditions can surmount modernity.
But will they be enough for her to stay with Sam, or will she be forced to return to Tartarus for eternity?

I love, love, LOVE any story which has a new spin on Greek Mythology, how can anyone not? The author of this book pulled me in straight away when they tweeted this: Two all-powerful gods. One monster in need of redemption. The mortal she falls for. This is Medusa’s story. Not all monsters are evil.
As a child, one of my absolute favourite villains was Medusa. Is it normal to have favourite villains as a child? Probably not, but I did. Thank God for Kindle Unlimited because I would be broke with the number of books making it on to my to-read list.
Although this book is not available on Kindle Unlimited, it is available on Kindle for the reduced price of £3.98, or £7.76 in paperback. It is available in the UK and the US.

And finally… for my own book. With the release of Hunted fast approaching, why don’t you give Gifted a read now in preparation for the sequel this summer.
Free on Kindle Unlimited, £2.99 on Kindle or £9.99 in paperback. Go on… you know you want to.
You can find it here.

I will be posting again over the next couple of days with all of my lockdown antics from the weekend. Thank you for reading and I hope you are all staying safe.
